Thanx chuck for sharing this nice link.

we've always been told that architects should understand the needs of every user of the building.

even though we may find some of the designs wonderful, but ever asked a bird what they think of them Very Happy Laughing

would a bird appreciate sky light like Mario Botta's design Laughing or has he had enough

i feel that the pointed spikes in Coop Himmelblau's design might give some feeling of security and protection to the little bird Twisted Evil

Although i have a lot of respect and admire Alvar Aalto's work but dont you think that birds donot enjoy much glazzing and being exposed to viewers? or why would they build nests in holes or hidden inside trees Confused

anyone else with comments i feel that this topic will bring up exciting and interesting analysis and views Laughing

Geez. i just thought the site was kinda funny, that's all. I hope to God no one spends time offering thier 'exciting and interesting analysis/ views' on the subject of borrowed forms in birdhouses.

hi guys
i think the birdhouses are kinda cute
u can actually tell the name of the architect, from which they r inspired by looking at them.
Isn't it cool. It shows how well the Designer understands the style of each architect
i think creativity should be appreciated. So what if they r not original, they r not meant to be that ways, and the designer is giving due respect to the original designer. Personally i think they r very innovative and much much better than the miniature models we sometimes make of our fav. buildings. Atleast they r useful.
Thanx chuck for sharing the info. and hey please not everything "borrowed" is bad ( nor everything "original" is good)

i totally agree with lovleen

it is kinda interesting being able to identify each architect by his own style, no matter how small or what the project is.

dear chuck: i started my post by thanking you for sharing this funny + interesting topic. and i appologise if my analysis bothers you.

Embarassed i simply had an idea that this was the actual purpose behind forum like this one Shocked

not at all buddy Embarassed

I just realised, my comments gave the impression that i was being sarcastic, i just meant to say that, is it possible for us human beings to build houses for animals? Exclamation Question

how can we evaluate the success of the design??

i'm glad the missunderstanding is over.

Anyway, birds wont flatter or give credit for any bad work. and a birdhouse that isn't suitable will simply remain clean and unvisited
Very Happy hehe dont you think?

i'll be glad if i could read chuck's analysis on some of the projects.
he told us which one he prefered, but never said why Wink

the members in the forum are increasing everyday, many open the posts, but very few are willing to reply or give comments.

I expected a lot of participation, i think chuck did a great job by sharing this link with us and i felt that these pictures were interesting enough to bring out comments and start an endless debate! but very few are willing to participate.

I'd like to repeat my questions and hope to get more replies this time:

"Do you guys think it is possible for us, to understand birds and animals and actually design homes for them?"
Do you think most of the designs were a success!!! and what do you think birds would think about them? Rolling Eyes

Hi!
You see designing home for people you don't know can rarely be a success story....I just want to tell you about a commission of inquiry for a project some 10 yrs back......Govt. spent money to build houses for poor tribes living in forests, builders made it as comfortable as possible ( as per our view), but the tribes left the houses and shifted to there traditional mud huts and kept there animals in the house provided!....commission report stated that...tribes have a different view for there home...eg. they don't like light entering their home contrary to our idea of home lighting...similarly they quoted many things about their space needs.
Here also before looking at the form of the house for a bird or animal first thing we should study is their natural habitat and the way they live and their space needs, then only we can bring an effective design for them...
