Just curious what all of you architect veterans and up-and-comers would design AND BUILD if you won the $365 million PowerBall lottery this week... within budget, of course!

With just 10 million dollars, I would hold an international art contest to design a World Child Monument on the Eastern side of Governor's Island, in New York Harbor, geographically patterned after the ancient Stonehendge circle of stones.
Instead of the circle of stones, I would have giant-sized children of all races and colors and religions, joining hands, and they would be standing on a giant slab-pedestal that ordinary people, tourists, could help rotate in a circular motion, so that each stone effigy could face the rising sun on successive mornings.
And in the center, maybe an altar, for all faiths to hold services, celebrating the peacefulness that we should all know and practice.
And on the sides, I would pipe in video feeds from the Western Wall of Jerusalem, and Temple on the Mount, and Mecca, and Maatiu Picchu, and Giza, and wherever spiritual centers are revered.
Because as adults, collectively, aren't we all trying to make a better future for our children and grandchildren, away from all the horrendous problems we give them?
And at the end of the day, I promise you, nothing would change, but I tried. And 5 minutes from now, we are all gone, every last one of us. _________________ Ed Ziomek |
