If you do not attend, nor plan to attend Cal Poly, then your posts make no sense.

With such reverence for the school, there would be no reason to turn it down if you were admitted.

I indeed have great respect for the institution, and am so far more impressed with Cal Poly than any of the other schools I visited in California. But I have no pride in that school, nor do I have an agenda to push because I don't attend the school yet. Right now its a toss up between UCB and Cal Poly. Although Cal Poly is vastly a better undergrad program, the UCB degree for undergrad takes considerable less time from my Community College (2 Years) which gears its program towards UCB, wheras Id be spending another 4 years at SLO.

So, if you go to UCB you will still need to get a Master's degree before you can get a license which will mean 4 years, correct? Although I would recommend against the 5 year BArch and instead opt for the MArch route, I don't know what your situation is. To me it seems the best course of action (again not knowing your situation) would be to go to UCB and then have your pick of Master's programs. That way, you're exposed to different design cultures and pedagogies and you receive a more well rounded education. I think I'm biased against 5 year BArch programs but if that is what you want, go for it.

i noticed earlier that design was mentioned as being a basis for a good school... i suggest instead of making a list of big names you look at schools who win competitions they enter, that is where you will find good design...my suggestion for the best school in design would be The Savannah College of Art and Design, especially if you are interested in learning a great deal about aesthetics and sustainable design, and it wins most every competition it enters (also offers a wonderful 5yrs March)....

i love quick responses:) hmm lets see, i would have to check into the actual names of comps but the focus seems to concern competitions relating to sustainable design... the leading edge design competition is the first that comes to mind, i will have more for you shortly

How did the school win the competition? Also, I don't think very many schools actually enter those competitions anyway. I think that is a very poor way to judge the quality of education.

Savannah College of Art and Design? I have never even heard of it. And if judging schools by how many competitions they win puts Savannah College at number one, I'm not so sure thats the best way to judge schools...
