I'm thinking about adding a screened in back porch with a wooden deck on top... is the wooden deck going overboard?

Not if that is what you want!
But take into acount that the "deck" is really the roof of the screened-in porch; the porch is more of an "exterior room", so the roof cannot be just a series of wood slats like many deck are. You need to use a roofing system to prevent water penetration into the porch area.
This all complicates the concept, but does not exclude you from building it. |

| You are not going overboard. What I would suggest is placing fiberglass or tin roofing directly under the top deck. Start your slope as close as you can to where the deck meets the house. Like any roof, have it run to a gutter or tile. Depending on the size of the porch below will limit the amount of slope you will have on the roof, its not going to be much. Just enough to allow water to move. This roof will be invisible when your done (between the ceiling and deck). Another suggestion would be to use some kind of screen below the deck boards to keep insects and small debris from working there way into the porch below. |

I think that sounds like it'd be very nice, and since you want it, do it!
The fiberglass under the top deck is a good suggestion though |

| Try a mosquito curtain. They are much prettier than screening and a lot less expensive. You can remove it and wash it so it's practical in lighter colors. www.mosquitocurtains.com |

| They look nice -- have never seen mosquito curtains used in that manner. Would this be your store? |
