I have just heard on a Chinese discussion website.. ... www.chinahistoryforum.com about a Benzene explosion or ?? spillage near Harbin China, happening yesterday.

http://www.chinahistoryforum.com/index.php?showtopic=8376&hl=benzene

I think the entire city's water supply has been shut down, and may be polluted for years to come with the leukemia-causing agents.

As a comparison of news coverages, I am not aware of American news sources discussing this ecological disaster, yet Western Europe and the BBC is covering it.

Of course, the eco-implications for all of us is enormous. Can't happen here? Nobody is foolish enough to believe that. I am surprised that the American media hasn't picked it up, as far as I can tell.

It is benzene in the water.

If one drinks a lot of it then it could apparently cause leukemia. The water supply was cut off to avoid supplying polluted water to Harbin.

Sounds to me like they are handling it well - the cause of the accident at Jilin has been found and this is a spillage that resulted from the explosion.

No, not Tchernobyl - nor Bhopal. Thank goodness.
