I'm curious. Having just aquired a cheapo fisheye lens for my digital camera (~15mm length, not a proper 8mm one), how many architectural photographers actually make use of these to good effect. Are there any people in particular whose work/portfolios I could look at for inspiration? Thanks.

Appologies for replying to my own post, but after 500 views and no reply i wonder if i own the sole fisheye lens on the planet. Surely someone has seen a fisheye lens used convincingly before, for architecture?!

Yes, the fisheye is used occsionally, and to great effect. But because it gives such an extreme stylization and distortion, it is generally [i]only[/] used occasionally.

Examples? I think there's a famous photo looking from the top of a tower of the Golden Gate Bridge. I'll try to flip through some of our arch. photo books later on and find some other things out there.

Yeah, anything really would be excellent, be that image, name of photographer, etc; the books on cameras I have show fisheyes used with small objects, but in ordinary architecture books the photography seems to be fairly traditional; more about picture-postcard composition (rule of thirds etc) than anything interesting. And my uni library doesn't have anything on "architectural photography" specifically.

An occasional use of the fisheye lens may work well. But the distortion is great and not really appropriate if you are taking images for serious sales brochures etc.
