A while back I had this project with a difficult client. I was the principal architect of residential design in the company and he liked my work. But he wanted me to fight with the owner of the company because he felt it would the best of the design. Even with that demand I tried to accomodate him the best I could. Although it got difficult since I was running another 14 projects in different phases and trying to get new work. Needless to say, it was difficult to juggle my schedule. One day when the client insisted to stop by to see me and I just didn't have time. When it was almost time for his arrival, I called to the receptionist and told her when he asks for me, tell him I'm not here. Wouldn't you know it, she had me on speaker and he was standing right next to her. He replied to the speaker phone, "I'm standing right here!!!". The project turned out great and we still laugh about it.
At the same office, a seasoned project manager submitted plans, elevations, and model for a mostly glass structure to the structural engineer for framing plans and calculations. He quickly noticed there was not a single column on the plans. He sent her an email to notify her and she fired back an email that said, "what's wrong with it? The roof held up in the model." |
