| I live in the Minneapolis area. I have a list of existing buildings, for which I would like to determine who designed them. So how do I find out the name of the orginal architect? |

Ahh, the Twin Cities! That's a great place to see many excellent examples of architecture... try getting the date of construction, then ask the local building dept. for a reference to the architect? You could also check a GIS database for property owner, and nicely contact them for direction?

Thank you for your reply. I will have to vist some of the local building departments to see what information I can obtain there.
The irony of the situation, is that since I am a structural engineer, I remember the engineering firm, but not the architectural firm. |

Why not try contacting the engineering firm associated with each building, then -- they would surely know which architect(s) they worked with. . .

| Currently I am trying to solicit consulting work from architects. So at this time I am in competition with many of the firms who designed the buildings that I am interested in. |

| RARWOOD are these buildings on the historical register? Minneapolis has had a lot of designs from some surprising designers. If you have photos I might be able to help, I did my grad and undergrad at CALA, and most of my colleagues are working in firms in the Minni-Apple |

innova+a The buildings I am interested in are all new buildings. Until last year, I had worked for Structural Wood Corporation. So the buildings I am interested in were projects I was involved with while I was at SWC.
When I started working at SWC in 1997 I passed all my architectural contacts over to one of the salesman. The salesman is now retired. When he worked there, if I needed information on an architect I would just talk to him.
Most of the time I dealt with engineers. The few cards, I have from architects, were generally from projects that had problems.
I have learned who the architect was on some of the projects by going to the web site of some of the local firms.
You indicated you studied at CALA, what do the intials stand for? As an engineer, I am not familair with the top architectural schools in the US. |
