I am a architcture student in southern california, i go to woodbury university, and i am wondering What is the typical fee for floor plans, elevations, details, etc per sq. foot?
I am only doing a drafting service not design work

| Architects usually will not work on a fee per square foot, they will be billing for the hours worked and then will base a price on that. Remember, just because a building is small doesnt mean that it will be quick. |

just my 2¢ - try and ask for half the money upfront as a retainer. Then the other half when the project is finished. It would leave a bad taste if you invested alot of time into this project, turned over your drawings and not get paid.

This depends entirely on the job. What would you be basing the drawings on? Existing paper drawings or measurements that you would have to take yourself? It's difficult to estimate a job like this unless you've done a similar one previously. I do drafting on contract all the time, and even after a couple of years I'm always surprised by how long it takes. As for extracting payment - that can always be a problem. A retainer is a good idea, but you still have to extract it somehow. _________________ Have fun,
