hi... im a 4th year urban architectural student and in a matter of 1 week i have to hand in my thesis title and im still undecided what to choose. I would like my thesis to be a study related to colour... but how can i blend it with urban architecture? any ideas? any sites i should visit?
To add to this, last year there was a thesis on : colour and the exterior (mostly houses) and i would like to differ from it.
Anyone can help me?
Thanks in advance

I have some suggestions:
-COLOR AND THE CITY SPIRIT (Here you could make contrast of existing cities for example almost gray as LONDON contrasted with the city of the Sun: MIAMI (miami has a lot of art deco colors and pastels and also withes and vibrant colors, and how the color is an influence in the behavior, and personality of people= in miamy people is different than in london)
TEXTURE AND COLOR IN THE IMAGE OF A CITY (Here you add a texture ingredient...not yust color but also materials and analize mediterranean cities all withe with red tile roofs, desert cities with a lot of earth colors, grey cities, all brick cities, etc. and also the thesis can talk how depending on the materials used the final image is going to be.
*
In the first example you can make emphasis on the personality of people and in the secon example you can talk more about the image of the city. you may do a combination so you have more to talk about.

a regeneration of an area is challanging but my tutors do not encourage such a topic since it has been done over and over again..... _________________ 4th year architectural student |

Currently in my design studio we are working on a fabric scheme for 9 city blocks of a downtown area. There is a rich history of the city which is evident on the west of the site, and many new buildings of modern materials to the east that don't speak to the historic district. We have the center spot and are trying to merge the 2 building types. We are creating a fabric scheme to merge the historic to the modern by using modern and traditional materials with historic character. Color and material are extremely important in this design. Perhaps you can find a problem area like this in your town and develope a solution.
Good luck! |
