Organization seems like a wonderful thing until you realize what's missing.
I used to scan the old forum to read my favourite writers. I also felt like I didn't miss anything. Since the icons don't work for me, I lose track of what I've read and haven't. They're lit up when I first visit, after a post they're gone.
I'm also concerned that some of my favorites have stopped participating. I haven't seen their names since this forum started.

P.S. The last time I made comment about the state of this forum I was censored. So I posted as directed on the icon issue and have had no replies. I guess no one else sees the problem as I do. |

Not sure if I am one of the favorites... but, you could open the links to each of the threads in new windows (or Tabs in Safari) and thus preserve the original page showing the links and icons as they were. OK, this work around may not be ideal, but it should work.

"Not sure if I am one of the favorites..."
Of course you are.
I've tried several approaches to using the forum to see if there's a way to get the status icons working. I.E. never logging out, quitting and trashing cookies, logging out & logging back in, etc. But they still reset to "No New Posts" when I quit my browser and return the the same day.
Isn't it possible to use cookies more interactively?

David,
I have the same problem here as well. I have discovered that the real issue seems to be that the auto log on feature never works. That is when the icon status doesn't change it is due to the fact that I am not logged on to the forum. When I manually log on the icons change as expected. I am sure that this is something that Mike Wheeler is aware of and working on. As with anything new there will always be minor tweaks here and there and never more true than with software.

If you log out, when you log back in again you always have to check the "log me in automatically"checkbox. If you don't, it won't.
I interpret it as meaning, log me in automatically UNTIL I LOG OUT...at least that's the way it works. |

I've done all of that too.

From what I have seen cookies that were set early in this message board's introduction duid not work properly, and are not being reset properly. To resolve this you need to delete the cookies for both designcommunity.com and www.designcommunity.com. Everyone I have written to has had success with automatically loging in and the new post icons after they deleted the cookies from both of these domains.

Mike
I finally got the auto login to work. The cookie that needed to be deleted was actually .www.designcommunity.com instead of www.designcommunity.com. Seems that there was a period preceeding the domain name in my Safari.
