Max is better then VizRender - which is a cutdown version of Viz.

Go for Max over viz-render every time, because there is so much more sophisticated functionality.

I believe Max and Viz are almost identicle programmes, but i'd stick to 3dStudio-Max because there's a tonne of online support for it if you encounter problems, which you will, wheras for Viz solutions may differ/be harder to find.

I also don't know if the better 3ds render-engines (mental ray, vray, etc) work for Viz, i know they don't for viz-render), they alone are worth it!

Oh, and its best to call "Max", "3d studio" in conversation, cos you can't distinguish Max from Macs (as in the pc made by apple); confuses the hell out of people after a while!

VizRender is NOT for modelling. Its kind of a plugin for ADT to render 3Ds you make in ADT. VizRender is not available for purchase seperately.

Autodesk VIZ 2006 is just a stripped down version of 3DS Max. They have removed features like particle animation if you are planning to make sophiscated walkthroughs with working fountains, etc...

The interface is just the same.

If you are going to start off into modelling, I would recommend a software called SketchUp 5. (http://sketchup.google.com) I use it to make my conceptual models and its REALLY easy.

For photorealistic work, go for 3DS Max 8.

Peace n respect!
Cheers!
