I'd like to add a few dubious "why's"?

Why are you concerned about a hole and sunlight above? One can get sunlight above without digging a hole.

Yes, I agree that sounds INCREDIBLY expensive and very wasteful. Go find an old quarry or some natural feature if you want to build a house into a hill. At worst, find something useful to do with all ...
