In a CAD program, you can make a copy of the plan view, and rotate it 90°. Then you can draw your other elevation and move it into place wherever you want it after you've drawn ...

I have gotten autocad architect to produce drawings comperable to PowerCADD. The thing I enjoy the most about it is the speed - zooming is instantaneous and there is no waiting around for anything.
