I think even if we began an effort to methodically improve English tomorrow we will still have regional differences in pronunciation, word choice, grammar and slang.
I see that because of regional differences in pronunciation no language as wide sppead as English can ever be truly phonetic. For one thing are we going to use the American pronunciation, the English or who’s?
Really the goal of phonetic spelling is simply an effort to simplify unnecessary complications in our language spelling. No matter how a word is spelled and how a dictionary says that it should be pronounced people are going to say it like they want to. I like hearing different languages and different dialects also, that would not change in our lifetimes and most likely not our grandchildren’s either. But because of global communications I think eventually everyone on earth will probably eventually have a common language (if we last that long)
Overall I think it will be a good thing. Much of the trouble in the world is caused by people who don't respect each other because they do not understand each other. _________________ Chris Stewart
