I have to laugh!

After having shot a 4x5 view camera for years before moving to digital, I have to laugh when I hear people complaining about the weight of certain 35mm digitals.

I probably have a lighter digital SLR around here to trade with them.

Say, I like the direction Canon seems to be going with more professional controls on more of their mid-range DSLRs like the 40D.

Of course it gets a little heavier with a battery grip. I use a similar camera both ways, but for more intense work, I personally like the weight and solidity of the full-size combo unit. I imagine a 1D-type all-in-one unit would be even better.

Life was so much easier with film, a couple film holders, maybe a Polaroid back, and a drop off pouch for the lab and everything was rosy.

Now I'm tripping over a firewire cable, backing up every half hour, wondering if all my software drivers are current, & I've become again the "lab boy" who at the end of the day needs to develop the images. Man I sure do miss those old easy days using 4x5

Hey I hear ya. But my last 3 jobs were all shot on film, 6x7 Mamiya RB and 4x5 Sinar. I turn around my MF jobs in 48 hours, my lab is 10 minutes away and i scan all my trans. I scan my negs and deliver the CD. 123 it's over.

Yes I have a Canon 1Ds but as the guy said earlier, lots of stuff that makes that job so involved. However, my simple commercial real estate jobs don't require really high rez files so I use my Canon.
I went full circle with the architectural work only to find out that most of my clients in this area can't afford my high end photoshop approach so guess what? I went back to simple, daylight inspired residential work similar to what the design mags publish and I am happy. The archiving is easier and to me more trust worthy to my hard work. Showcase stuff if glamorous but gets old too.
