Dear all,

This is a reminder that my open source and architecture survey is still available for feedback.

For those who have already completed the questionnaire, I thank you for your time and participation. If you have not, please take the opportunity to fill out the survey as soon as possible. I count on your responses to help me with my research. It should take less than 12 minutes and I am more than happy to send you the results once they have been analysed.

Please visit the following link to go to the survey: www.questback.com/universityofsalford/osa

Many thanks again for your time

Best regards

V

Having a hard time getting participants?

No surprise. The premise of your project is absurd.

Interesting subject! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Had never really come across the idea directly until you posted the survey.

So, Anti, are you suggesting that architects should not have a de facto copyright of their work?

I believe that in a time where architecture is driven by information (since this is the information age), and buildings are designed thru script and code, then open source has its merit, and would likely be encouraged. Open source is already a very large benefactor in the programming realm, and as we find new ways of designing in the digital age, I think we will see more open source, in this respect to architecture.

no but i do say there should be limited rights and a time limit

there is no reason ideas could not be shared

what happens mostly now is a individual architect artist inventor or whoever is hired by a corporation and this corporation lobbys the government to give them so far infinite copyrights to the ideas of low payed workers

not that i think the worker or the individual needs more or less but that society as a whole needs the benefits of any new ideas in the humanosphere.

other wise perpetual human rights abuses under the guise of fascism is happening.

That makes absolutely no sense. I don't think you understand why architects own the rights to their work.

As to JB's comment, again, a load of BS. Buildings designed through script and code? Sure. You obviously don't have a clue about designing buildings that can actually be used and satisfy their intended functions.

Well I think if people want to participate in open source experiments that is their right. Architecture for humanity has had some participation I know.

I would hardly call studying the question absurd. One of Americas founding fathers openly gave away some inventions so there is precedent. I have also freely given design work. I don't think everything in life has to be about money like you seem to teamjdc.

i know it is a liability issue that will not go away when ideas become freer
if anything buildings will be safer because there will be more creative minds tackling difficult situations and tasks with a larger range of products in their reach.

don't forget the money is imaginary and faith based.
