Well i'm wondering what the current market is for architects. i'm a mid career licensed guy out ofwork 6 weeks now. what scare me, a friend spoke with an old classmate yesterday and he has been out of work since january. i'm in housotn and they say it's actually pretty good in texas as compared to other parts of the country.
any ideas for a career change for a 49 y.o. guy? train to be a locksmith? piano tuner? professional dog-walker? huh. i've tired project manager, owner's rep., etc., facilities management, tried design-build companies as a staff hire um, construction management companies, construction companies...i think they see architects as just flaky characters trying to get away from a CAD station.
i' all ears... |

Architecture is dying as a proffession over here in the UK too, I've been chcking job oppertunities and havn't seen a decent one within 50 miles for about 6 months now.
The company I used to work full time for yesterday decided they were going to cut hours or make people redundant, there are 3 employees working in the office (including myself) 1 guy got made redundant and myself and another guy dropped down to 3 days from the 4 that we were working (we both dropped from 5-4 about 5 months ago when another guy got made redundant).
I'd suggest if you have the skills to maybe try setting up your own business, It takes quite a bit of discipline and commitment but has been worthwhile for me. since I lost a day a week 5 months ago I set up this website http://jrpcad.co.uk/default.aspx it seems to have so far generated alot of private work for me to the point where I'm now working alot of nights and weekends aswell as my current 1 day off soon to be 2!
If there's any kind of moral to what I'm saying, I'm sure it would be "As one door closes, another one opens!"
good luck with the job search.

I know this is slightly old news, but in December 2008 US News and World Report tagged Landscape Architect as one of the best careers of 2009.
Here's the link: http://www.usnews.com/articles/business/best-careers/2008/12/11/best-careers-2009-landscape-architect.html
I know this recession isn't lending itself well to current job prospects, but employment for architects is suppose to grow (faster than other occupations, too!) through the next 10 years. So don't give up on architecture yet! Good luck![/url] |

The architects market is not good now in other country ,especially in USA , we had lots of customer in US , all of them said the market is slow ,they just have very little order ,since no persons buy material .
We are selling stone products . But the China condition is better than US , We are working on several vill projects and some hotel project this month . I hope the the market will turn better very soon .Thanks the god ~! _________________ I am not the best ,but i will try my best ! |
