Making a landscape model

Any suggestions for making a lanscape model? I'm making a model of a heavy wooded site where i'm designing a building. What materials can I use to represent trees and the ground itself? I would apreciate any tips!

for the trees,maybe you can use floral wire and strands of broom..(for small scale models only)
for the ground, i use sawdust, then airbrush paint it..

Go to a model making shop. You can buy sheets of fake grass. Also bags of hedge material which you can make trees out of.

For trees, use branches of oregan! Just chop 'em a bit in the edges. They look lovely, realistic an it's natural!! Spray it a little. For the ground, i use many layers of carton, the cheap brown one used for boxes (u know the one with the waves in the middle). Just cut it so as to look like the ground lines to achieve the direction of the ground. Always check the thickness of the carton u use so that the sum of carton layers could give u the right escalation of ground

What scale are you going to build in? A lot of decisions depend on that.
I would suggest that you don´t do a colour model. Your question indicates that you are not very proficient in building models. If you are inexperienced with using colour the model will look childish and unprofessional.

Another question is whether the model will be a study model, a concept model or a presentation model. The techniques and materials needed are different.

Not knowing the scale I will give you some rough guidelines.
Start witth the surroundings. Use a chipboard or plywood board as baseplate. Build the contour lines with an appropriately thick material. You need a material that is corresponding to the height of the contour lines in scale. This material could be cardboard, foamcore, cork etc.

After you built that, spray the entire thing white. 'Then build the building and place it in the model. Spray that white as well to give the entire thing a uniform colour.

Next you want some trees in there. Building a tree 1:50 is very different from building it 1:500 so I would really need to know the scale.

Also, what kind of trees do you want? A spruce is very different from a birch.
