This article taught me a lot of new things about 3D CAD rendering with lights. It makes complete sense to work with it in pitch blackness first other than adding where you think the lights should go on a floor plan and then deleting/editing them to fit the space afterwards.

Does anyone else have some good tips on doing lighting in a CAD program?
