"Very often a downstairs bedroom and bathroom are a great convenience, especially where there are children or elderly people in the family."

This idea makes eminently good sense. Making this first floor accessible to the physically challenged allows for one to take care of an aging parent, providing them with their own private space. It also provides for someone who may be temporarily disabled.

A good discussion point would be to suggest that ALL houses should be built with this feature or to be built so that the house could be easily altered to allow for this bedroom-bathroom combination.
