Sherry, your last question is the most critcal one: can it generate construction documents (working drawings from which a contractor can actually build a house). With that in mind, the cheap 3D architecture programs you'll find on the market today, inlcuding Broderbund's, are probably barely adequate, if at all adequate for this purpose. Keep in mind that you'll have to get the local housing authority's approval, as well as that of your lender, and they have some pretty strict guidelines as to what passes. If you're still determined to do it yourselves, and can afford the cost and the learning curve, a more serious application, such as DataCAD (www.datcad.com) would be the best choice. Even then, though, you'll have to really learn a lot about how a house is constructed to really know what you're doing.
