Gary, I don't think Sherry has any intention of producing construction documents ("working drawings") herself. I'm guessing her question is more about the process.
So rather than suggest a complex all-in-one professional CAD application like DataCAD, I'd probably say, yes, you can design your house in a user-friendly 3D home design tool like DesignWorkshop Classic Home Design, and then, if the model is tight enough for it to save some time, you can hand your design model over to a professional building designer, architect, or engineer who can read the model into their own CAD tools, and produce working drawings from there.
