I have both 3D Home Architect (a useless program I don't use anymore) and Autocad 14, and I noticed the same thing. Autocad has two types of DXF it will import: 2D and 3D. I think, however, that Autocad is the only software that will save a 3D DXF that Autocad can read. As for trying to open a 3D DXF from Home Architect, Autocad is probably trying to read it as a 2D DXF, and fails.
