You will find any nummber of books that will give you minimums distances such as between a kitchen island and counters. ALL buildings should be constructed so that they are acceible to those who have physical challenges. You never know when you or someone who will later occupy the house will become temporarily or permanently handicapped.

A better measurement to use for interior doors and passages between counters and islands is 36 inches. If you want to try this out, get a chair or two or large cardboard box and place it 24 inches from the counter. Try moving around it. Then place it 36 inches away and do the same moving around. Try to imaging being confined to a wheel chair and doing the same activities.
