My general reaction to announcements of radical leaps forward in 3D rendering is 1) well, should be great if/when it gets real, and 2) when it gets real, it will be a great asset to the DesignWorkshop immersion-interface approach to modeling and visualization.
More specifically, there are various approaches to adaptive subdivision and adaptive simplification in the reseach literature. Someday some company will surely connect this technology into an accessible software architecture, and it will account for one good advance in the steady stream of advances we expect in the still-evolving 3D graphics world.
Does that sound too blase'? I think it is pretty exciting to pretty much take continuous rendering improvements for granted. But then I move on pretty quickly to the question of what can we really do with all that speed...
