I use DesignWorkshop Pro for most of my modeling. In it, to draw a spring, I would creat a polyline representing a cross-section of the spring; next I would use the 'duplicate circular' tool to produce the
basic profile of the spring; 'duplicate circular' allows me to determine the facet, the spring diameter and the change in elevation for each reproduced cross-section, number of duplicated cross-sections; I'd save the DW file as is and dial up the On-line 'lofting machine'; the lofting machine, in a matter of a few seconds, takes my polyline DW file and turns it into a beautiful 3D object.
