Message - Newbie question about importing .DXF file (more)

After more research, I strongly suspect that Broderbund's 3D Home Architect only exports .DXF "drawings" (2d), not .DXF "models" (3D)

So, it's no surprise that I have no Z dimensions.

This wouldn't be a big problem, except that the imported 2D file consists only of line segments (as opposed to rectangles or polylines).

I guess I could extrude each line segment individually, but is there a way to combine multiple line segments into a rectangle/polyline? I've tried using shift+click to select multiple line segments, but this doesn't seem to work will select some of the segments but refuses to select others.
