Thanks for asking another great questions! You are really stimulating discussion around here.

I'd say the biggest single factor in the speed of DesignWorkshop is the processor. The faster the processor, the faster DesignWorkshop will run.

For optimum speed you may want to upgrade your RAM to 64 MB or more. This will require less use of the hard disk for memory which is much much slower than physical RAM.

A 3D graphics accelerator will only speed up the rendering in the Lights and Textures view. At this point there are no accelerator cards for Windows that will speed up DesignWorkshop. We are working with various third party developers to bring 3D accelleration to DesignWorkshop for Windows. So, the right 3D graphics card will help the speed of DesignWorkshop, but hold off for a couple months until we have support for these.
