Most scanner SW allows you to preview the picture, then selecte a small area of it to scan in. Scan in B&W to save space
Another option is to use a "Xerox" copier to copy the transparency onto white paper, then cut out the parts you want, and tape them on another sheet (original cut & paste). You could also use a copier to zoom/enlarge the ares of interest.
Third option, take it to someplace like Officemax where they can transfer the image to a disk for you.
