Hi Karl,
I saw your post regarding historic power stations and I may have some leads for you. I did my masters thesis on a historic rail yard, a site definitely in the realm of industrial archeology and architecture. During my research I located a few books and articles that addressed the adaptive use of historic industrial sites and/or buildings. I've listed a few of them below:
Binney, Marcus. Bright Future - The Re-use of Industrial Buildings. First ed. London, UK: SAVE Britain’s Heritage, 1990.
Galloway, Duane and Jim Wrinn. Southern Railway’s Spencer Shops 1896-1997. First ed. Lynchburg, VA: TLC, 1996.
Kidney, Walter C. Working Places - The Adaptive Use of Industrial Buildings, A Handbook Sponsored by the Society of Industrial Archeology. Pittsburgh, PA: Ober Park Associates, 1976.
Rypkema, Donovan. The Economics of Rehabilitation. Vol. 53. Washington, DC: National Trust for Historic Preservation, 1991.
Stewart, William B. “Theater in the Round.” Locomotive and Railway Preservation July-Aug. 1990: 17-26.
Also, there are preservation websites that may have other leads. The ones I can think off at the moment are:
www.nationaltrust.org National Trust for Historic Preservation
www.nps.gov National Park Service (This will take you to Steamtown NHS - Roundhouse turned museum in Scranton, PA.
www.preservenet.cornell.edu/pnetman2.htm - This is a clearinghouse of preservation information nationwide.
Hope this is helpful.
