Thank you for contacting Artifice.

At this point there is no way to change the background color while in a wireframe view. You can, however, change the background color while in a shaded view by choosing the Arrange menu, Sun and Shading Settings command, where you can change the color of the ground and sky plane.

Actually, I just thought of a way you could get a black background color. It will probably slow things down a bit, and in my opinion a black background in DesignWorkshop makes the model less legible. The way to do it is to make an all black image using a paint program (or viewing an empty model in Lights and Textures, turning off the sun, and exporting the image). Then use the File menu, Background > Open command to open the all black image as a background.
