Smooth Walkthroughs

We occasionally get questions about making walkthrough movies smooth and flowing, here is a way to go about making nicer walkthroughs. The best way to get smooth walkthroughs is to set the View Control Sensitivity preference to low numbers such as 2 degrees around and 2 units in and out. Then use the arrow keys to precisely nudge the eye point and look point from one view to the next. Keep about the same distance between set views, and then insert about the same number of interpolated views between each set view. The frames per second in DesignWorkshop walkthroughs is a constant--to get smoother motion after saving a walkthrough movie, try opening the movie with Convert To Movie (from Apple) and changing the frames per second. This is how the Gregory Farmhouse walkthrough was done. In addition I believe we applied some compression and shrunk the movie window dimensions to achieve anti-aliasing using Convert To Movie to keep the file size down.

If you have any questions which you think may be of general interest to DesignWorkshop users feel free to ask them on this message board.
