The MicroShadow plug-in for DesignWorkshop provides a integrated set of shadow impact analysis tools, which include include calculation and real-time 3D display of a compound set of "shadow outlines" for a building (at user-defined time intervals, such as hourly), "shadow contours" illustrating the duration of shadows at all points across the building site, and a translucent "sun scale" consisting of the surface of sun paths illuminating a given point on the site.
The first version of the MicroShadow plug-in is being developed for special needs of the Japanese market, where most local building codes require proven conformance to strict solar access requirements as part of th4e project approval process. Therefore first version of the MicroShadow plug-in also provides specific structured output of the drawings and tabular data which are required by the regulations in Japan.
Shortly after the release of the first version of the MicroShadow plug-in in Japan, Artifice also plans to release a US version, at a lower price, which delivers the core tools for solar impact analysis, without the specialized Japanese reporting functions.
