For Radiance on UNIX DXF is just one method of importing data, the DXF then needs to be translated by Radiance into Radiance's own file format.

The DXF format is extremely limited in the information it is capable of carrying across programs.

DesignWorkshop has a direct Radiance export which includes all sorts of information that is not included in the DXF. This information includes material definitions, lights, view data, sun position, and various other data which makes it very fast and easy to get a high-quality Radiance rendering of a DesignWorkshop model.

For samples of some Radiance renderings take a look at the Artifice Gallery.
