I'm doing a paper on the San Giorgio Maggiore but have one little problem. The writer of the book, Andrea Palladio The Architect of His Time has a quote, "a view of the church that combines the illusion of a portico, when seen across the water, with a dynamic overlapping of engagd columns and pilasters when seen from nearby." My question is how it the illusion made and what is the importance. I would really appreciate any and all input. Thank you.
