Thanks for all the comments on this subject. We don't want you to go too low on quality, however, so we recommend a maximum image size of about 1000 pixels width, or 700 pixels high. About 700 pixels wide by 500 pixels high by is a good general size for posting. 500 pixels wide tends to be a bit on the small side, expecially for well-rendered finished images with lots of detail.

For a compression level, we recommend high (JPEG 75%) or maximum (JPEG 100%), not medium (JPEG 50%). Medium-grade images sometimes lose detail or pick up color banding, and we'd rather wait a little longer than risk seeing your work degraded. After all, if you don't want to wait you can always skip ahead. What I usually do personally is look at something else in another window while the big images load.
