I believe you can open the 2000i files in 2004...but you can't go backwards as far as saving a 2004 file off as a 2000i file. I think with this latest version you can save back to 2002 but users of r14 and 2000i are out of luck with dwg and dxf files. If you have enough versions you can probably save back to 2002 and then save back to 2000i or r14...from 2002. Check out some more CAD forums on this subject. A good one is tek-tips.com, tons of forums on CAD, OS, etc.
