Get a copy of ZipIt. You can download a demo it's shareware I believe. Anyway you'll find it. Compress your files with this and send them to the other party who will probably decompress them with Winzip. If you are sending a dwg file to an Autcad user try saving the file in R12 which seems to be the most stable version for a Mac to PC exchange. Also save the file to a blank sheet with no attributes. In PowerCadd that is done by holding down the option key when opening a new drawing sheet. I send my files via an ISP other than AOL so can't comment on that issue.
Other common gripes I get which are funny rather than problematic are that I use weird pen colors. No duh? I draw on a white screen with any color I choose which is not a function of my pen weight. When I started in architecture we drew on white drawing media, that really has'nt changed for me. But the thought of doing working drawings on black paper is way had to fathom. Now, presentation drawings that's another story... I digress.
