I have read much of the info posted here and have talked to Mike Wheeler about this. With photorealistic quality a desire it appears you guys prefer Radiance as the option of choice. However, the whole UNIX thing just makes it so damn difficult! Achieving these effects including light reflection and mirroring should be easily achievable! Installing an overidding OS doesnt seem like an appealling option.
I WILL however give you guys at Artifice a hand because you have come a LONG way in 1.7. Establishing a good reliable convenient way of rendering reflections, daylighting, etc is mandatory for archotectural rendering. A client, a company board, a Planning commision will only "value" the model if it looks "real" and in my humble opinion, a higher end renderer will be a valuable asset to the longevity of DW.....In the meantime, however, great job and fingers crossed (on my part anyway) to a solution to the issue that seems to be the core of many architects/designers concerns regarding computer generated renderings.
I for one would love to continue the dialogue regarding this issue.....
