Pardon the delay in responding. As I mentioned in the response to Ken Kuhlman it's been a little hectic lately.
There isn't one, or two, secret Photoshop (PS) tricks I use. As I'm sure your aware PS is a very robust program with an endless palette of options for "tweaking" an image. I'm continually learning new things all the time. I couldn't therefore, at least in a reasonable amount of time and space, give a list of everything I do.
Here are a few guidelines and tips that should be helpful.
1)Being aware of light sources, and their shadows.
2)Use scanned images to enhance the "realism", however, be careful and match the saturation between images. See #1
3)Blur background images, and other elements, to provide the effects of distance. See #1
4)Desaturate the image from DW. Unless you thoughtfully choose colors and materials I find the image can be a bit cartoony.
5)Learn how to use the rubber stamp tool.
I'm sure there are many others who have a few tips and tricks. Maybe they'll send you a few
Lastly, I have used PS's lightning effects with some success although I don't suggest using them as an alternative to actual rendering.
