I also work similarly to Peter's technique and agree about the 90° tool. I have always wished I could import onto the elevation plane and then extrude.
When I draw in PC I too use lines, but with no interuptions for Doors and windows. I lay them on top on a different layer. To draw the walls I usually use the parallel line tool offset to 4 or 6 inches and draw the exterior perimeter first and then the interior walls. This tool automaticly trims the lines so every thing is pretty much closed.
Before I import to DW I do the exterior walls first by selecting one line and then "select adjoining" from the edit menu.Copy to a new layer and then "attach". finally I "convert to pollygon" w/ my option key down to set the acuracy to high. Then I export.
In DW I import 2D, extrude and then wallify and then cut in my doors and windows.
When I do my interior walls I usually have to redraw using the "parallel line" tool set to polygon instead of lines and then export.
hope this helps.
