Existing:
main roof = 7-12 pitch
shed dormer roof = 2-12 pitch
both main and dormer rafters are 2x6, 24" OC
main roof ridge board = 1x8
shed dormer dimensions: 7'H x 20'W x 12'D

* I have cut a strip of the existing sheathing and tied my shed rafters into the ridge before removing the existing main roof rafters so I don't have a gaping hole in my roof (rain!).

* My new rafters, while at 24" OC, do not meet up with the existing main roof rafters on the other side of the ridge board. They are offset 10" on the ridge from the nearest rafter on the other side.

Question:
* Does this offset of rafters create a structural hazard since I have such a thin ridge board. I don't want the weight of snow, or simply the dormer weight, to SNAP the ridge board?
* Or is the weight distrubuted elsewhere (ie. the top plate of the dormer)?

Trey
