I'm not an engineer, but it sounds to me that the shed rafter are not working like the main roof rafters in relation to the ridge board anyway. They are probably exerting more downward weight than the common rafters and should be supported by something other than the ridgebd. Otherwise I'd agree with you that the ridgebd. needs to be beefed up.
Often dormers are supported by doubled rafters each side and cross beams at the top
