Creating Hexagonal Roofs?

I'm having difficulty creating vaulted roofs over hexagonal or octagonal forms. It appears that it could be done by creating a sloping roof form perpendicular to one of the sides and then using "duplicate mitered". My experience is that this command doesn't work on a sloping form. Is there any other way to do it?
