MacWeek also reported that Adobe bought Canoma.

Mac Week's latest report says:

In exchange for Canoma, Adobe said that it will offer Metastream export capabilities in many of its graphics programs, including Photoshop, GoLive, Illustrator, LiveMotion, InDesign, Premiere and After Effects

To me this suggests Adobe did not have to pay for Canoma at all, just promise to support MetaStream.

From what I have seen of MetaStream it is a 3D file format, so it is unclear to me how all those 2D Adobe products will support the format.
