There is always a reason behind a particular symbol chosen to represent an individual, his or her effrts, an idea, etc.

Why stars and stripes to represent the original colonies and the states?

Why a hammer and sicle to represent the former USSR?

Why a pine tree to represent Lebanon.

All of these symbols likely had a deep meaning to the creators of flags and monuments.

The most important question is; what does it mean to you?
