AUTOCAD OR MICROSTATION FOR 3D

I work for an Engineering / Architectural practice and we use both Autocad and Microstion.
I am very interested in developing my 3D modelling, animation and rendering skills.
But which way should I go, I don't really want to try and do both.
My current feel is the Autocad route with Accurender.
Anyone got any strong views on this ?
