Cosmetic threads are just that; cosmetic. They follow the old drafting standard for thread representation. If you want actual helical threads, which take up a lot of memory, and time, you will have to define a helix and a profile, and do an swept cut, or a swept feature using guide curves. If you don't know what I am talking about, you will not be able to do it for a while, until you learn SolidWorks better. Not much help I know, but it is the truth.
