Which Drafting Programs are common?

Hello,
I am planning to buy one of the new imacs as a family computer. 500 Megahertz with 128 megs of RAM expandable to 1 GIG of RAM. I am also looking for a drafting program to use with it such as autocad. Can one buy AutoCad for the Mac?
What are the common drafting programs used today?
I am especially interested if there are any good AutoCad programs compatible for the mac. Such uses would be basic drafting to drafting the plans for a house or a garage.
My budget may vary from $200 - $2000 depending on what each program may offer.
Should I instead consider buying a PC computer instead or are there a lot of good drafting programs compatible with the mac as well?
Would any one have any suggestions?
